2.4 Crankshaft Position Sensor

Update:
Checked (via bypassing ASD relay and using multimeter to short pins of PCM plugs to battery negative) that all 4 injectors fire, and that both sides of spark plug coil fire. Also replaced CMP and checked gap, though I think I need to get one of those wire spark plug gap gauges to have a better time measuring that gap.
Still didn't have any good success or real difference when trying to start engine.
Anyone think this is signs of bad PCM?

Have you verified the timing belt hasn’t jumped?

@Pascal25 i can test your pcm in my Jeep if you’d like to sen it into us. They are notorious for failing on 05-06 TJ’s.

When you had it running, how was the idle? Did it stall out when hot?

You can call me to discuss in future detail if you would like. 866-888-7710.

PS

Michigan went from the mitten state to the smitten state since Whitmer took over. 🇺🇸

I'll give you a call today or tomorrow to discuss timing, pricing, etc. Hoping to be able to narrow it down to if it's PCM or not before pulling it!

Also, I have never had it running since I got it last summer, and the dealer/mechanic we bought it from wasn't able to get it running either, so I don't know about the idling or stalling.

I'm happy as long as I can still keep making hand maps for both peninsulas 😅

Jumped timing belt. Classic. When it's done let me know.

Haven't actually verified if jumped or not yet, but it sure was a pain getting it to as pictured. Think I'm going to have to undo that final screw holding the bottom plastic cover on using some pliers through the back.
Tomorrow I'll clean up some up the dust and crud on everything in there and actually check the timing

Oh my bad. It looks like it may still be in time. IIRC on the PT Cruiser (same engine internals, block is casted different), the timing marks should be able to side to side in line with each other. Turn the engine over by hand at the crank and see if they line up. If not, intake and exhaust cams are out of time with the crank.

If that's the case, boom. No start. I can't be sure from the photo. Either way, just one tooth off will cause a no start or will hit and then immediately die.

By the way, imagine doing that timing belt job on a Neon, PT, Voyager, Sebring, etc. You gotta drop the motor mount and like 10 other things. It. Sucks. Ass.

Checked out the timing last night and it looks correct to me. However, I realized that since I had some rotation in both directions to get the crank sprocket to TDC, my measurement of the belt tension is invalid. I'll have to try that again tonight, after taking out the spark plugs this time.
If the timing is right but tension is too low, can that explain the no-start condition in the videos posted?

Also I noticed while taking the covers off back a few days that the exhaust pipe had fallen off!
Bolted back on now 😅

Same position of that indicator after rotating clockwise twice around, and then still same after the third rotation.
Can this improper timing belt tension cause a no-start condition?

Worth it to go buy a new belt and tensioner? Think I'm also going to send the PCM off to @Wranglerfix at this point to try to rule that out.

Running out of credible ideas for how to get this thing to run...

I think what I’m gonna do is disconnect that sensor on Monday (under the oil filter) and find out what it is. I’m almost positive that’s your issue. Id do it today because I’m off in a couple hours but it’s wet from the storms last night.
