Question about airbags

I have a 2000 Wrangler Sahara and as far as I know the airbags have never been deployed. I was just wondering over the 20 something years if the airbags ever get old or need to be replaced? I have a bull bumper up front with a winch and I wonder if that bumper in the front would prevent the airbags from working God forbid I had an accident. Any knowledge and info yall could provide me would be greatly appreciated.

Not sure on bag replacement but as far as I know (and I’m open to correction), the airbag is deployed by an inertia switch located in the console, beside the key to disable the passenger side airbag.

NO. The 20 something year old airbags are perfect. It's the 40 something year old ones that should be upgraded. 🤫

I was wondering the very same thing. Obviously the manufacturer of airbags don't trust mechanics to do anything on them, so they are supposedly maintenance free. My wifey has got a Pajero NL, build 1999. These cars got recalled in Australia to scrap them because of a faulty driver side airbag. We refused to surrender our car and just disabled the airbag. It took two years for the government to realize that not everyone was willing to sacrifice their car, so they mandated Mitsubishi to replace them for free. Mitsi finally replaced the driver side airbag but not the passenger side one because it didn't have that fault (rust bloom on the canister holding the charge).
These canisters are made from cheap paper-thin sheet metal and aren't even painted! I drive my car as if it hadn't any airbags...


For the bumper: ARB sells their bumpers "air bag compatible": https://www.arb.com.au/bull-bars/
so I guess a bumber has an effect on the air bag. I don't know what makes a bumper air bag compatible though, these bumpers a huge chunks of steel. They look massive and they are heavy af.
 
I removed my passenger side airbag and am planning on using the dash space for storage and a swing arm tablet mount for navigation.

I'd replace my steering wheel if it were a priority.

Airbags were disabled by the PO and I see no reason to fix them.

The airbag is not connected to the bumper.
The slow speeds associated with off-roading keeps it from accidentally deploying when hitting trail hazards.
