Been a busy weekend and most of this probably belongs in my build thread but here goes.

Went out back to the scrap pile and found a Dana 35 YJ setup rear w 3:07 for Dave’s project YJ

Picked up Lucis YJ from Jacks in Wassaic for it’s bi-annual Oil Undercoat

Cleaned and “repaired “ Mikes IAC in his ‘06 TJ with only OK results, need to get back to that but he’s not driving much these days.

Then the LJ. My rig. Dismantling has begun for frame repair. I know how you guys feel about rust but this is our game up here.

Complete suspension, axles, fuel tank, transfer case skid all removed and stashed.

Plan is to service all components before reinstalling.

See the pile of Safe-T-Cap products. All available pieces going in, including replacement of all three, yes three Crossmember in the rear. Bumper support, fuel tank support and shock/fuel tank support will be new.

In this project I will relocate the rear spring buckets and replace body mounts with some boat side mounts from Barnes.

I will say to anyone out there that cares, I already wish I started with a southern, rust free Jeep. That said I’m over it and this will be my learning experience.

I’ll keep y’all updated when I can.

Wish me luck.

🇺🇸

PS: Also got the wife’s JKU oil changed yesterday 😮‍💨

Following this, as some frame repair work is in my future in the next year or so. I knew going in that my TJ was sold in NY, and spent all it's life in NY or MI, so rust was a given. Still, got it cheap and wanted a learning platform for wrenching, welding, and painting. Definitely getting an education!

This is a similar situation as myself. I’ve been wrenching years but to get in to my LJ cheap I bought with a rusty frame.
This will be fun and has given me a reason to finally buy a plasma cutter. 🇺🇸

Not bad at all!
I started cleaning the underbody and painted my torque boxes. My Jeep guy said Jeep primed the underbody and any color on the underside is just overspray from painting the tub. IDK
So I treated the rust, gray primered, and then clear laquered over it. Have you repainted the torque boxes? It looks great.

You remember my experience where the washer fluid was staining the yellow paint on my Jeep? I used the washer fluid yesterday afternoon and I tried to clean it up this morning. It left a stain on the paint. Not even 24 hours and it stained the paint. All of that fluid is coming out of the reservoir whenever I get a break between meetings today.

Wife is on the fence about adding Lightning Scissors™ to the tool collection, but if my kids come through for birthday and/or Father's Day, I might have a plasma cutter in the garage as well!

What catch can did you use? Been considering it for my 2000 since I did the research and put one on my '24 Silverado LZ0.

I just went with two of these because the vent on top of others is counter productive in my opinion.
Amazon Special

If I can find the link, I read that the 2 vents on the valve cover are for separate systems so they need their own catch can.
