I am glad I own a TJ

I always thought forums were social media, assumed really, but never actually looked at the definition until two seconds ago:

"websites and applications that enable users to create and share content or to participate in social networking."

Pretty sure that's what's happening here.

The other forums I've been on in my life have primarily been bbq related, besides all the off topic shit there was certainly creation of content in the form of recipes/methods/pit builds and so forth, and the social networking was even bigger, I've been to countless bbq festivals & made some life long friends all stemming from those forums.

The TJ forum essentially serves the same purposes. Every build thread is 'content' & how many friendships have developed here over the years where we've gotten together wheeling & whatnot...

I think social media, the term itself, has become a 4 letter word to many because of how the big players in the business have stunk up the joint so much, but I think a lot of good has come of it as well, this particular site for example.

as for Whats Ap, unless I'm unaware of a whole bunch of its functions it looks like nothing more than a method of texting. Years ago my buddy in Jamaica (driver turned buddy) suggested I get it to communicate with him as his email is less reliable and has access issues from time to time. I installed it & for years have had one contact in it, him, until a few weeks ago when another buddy announced he quit his job, sold his house & all his shit, bought a penthouse in Medellin Columbia & he is outa here, so now I have 2 contacts :ROFLMAO:

So for that reason I don't see how that Ap is 'social media', more or less it's a free international phone type device

Yeah that’s only reason. Super common communication in most countries I’ve been to, other than US. You can call text voice memo biggest feature is it gets around international fees.

I always pay the $10/month and use my phone the same as I do here.

Who do you use? Depending on Country Verizon is as much as $10 a day. iPhones have made it easier, I-message is basically same thing as W.A if you have WiFi. Like I said barely use it when I’m home.

I'm not in a place to take on another hobby, but that one sounds like something I’d enjoy. 🤤

With the price of good meat now, is that cheaper or about the same as owning a Jeep? 🤔

yeah, not nearly as expensive as the jeep, although between the 2 houses I have 4 smokers, 2 grills and 2 griddles so maybe..... I even see @Apparition on the smoking forum.

It was verizon. I called them last time I traveled over seas about it and they turned it on for the month. Was traveling to Czech Republic using an Iphone. I haven't left the country since Covid hit though.

depends, I bought an Egg in 2004 for $600 then spent $$$ building a throne for it to sit on & a roof to keep it (me) dry while cooking on it, and I got away cheap compared to some of the outdoor bbq-atoriums some of my homies slapped together, a few hundred bucks on a smoker can turn into a $75,000 outdoor kitchen after a few beers & a napkin to draw the plans on 😜

I do a lot of international travel, Whats Ap is great for that. I can talk to friends anywhere in the world same as I could normally text someone minus the international fees. For my work social media is unfortunately mandatory. Free advertising and it's where my client base is. The day I retire it all gets shut down. First thing I do hiring is "google" my potential artist. If they have no online presence I don't want them working with me

Email works for free.

Yea, yea, yea - you can play the definition game all you want, - it depends on what your definition of "is" is. ;) To me, "Social media" is a site that has algorithms that manipulate "content", sells your data to the highest bidder multiple times, and exists for no other reason than to suck in as many people as it can for profit - in other words it doesn't even have a legitimate reason to exist. Most single purpose forums do none of the above.

I agree while WhatsApp is not big here, when you travel internationally you find it is the best way to communicate. Big Brother can listen to a Stupid Phone as well as a Smart Phone. The best way to see how the rest of the world lives you need to travel there not listen to some Troll and their agendas. Just think how much control do we actually have with Our government? People are basically the same around the world. Most people don’t leave their state let alone travel the world.

well, 'definitions' are in fact a thing, words actually have meanings, whether or not you like a particular one & how it applies notwithstanding...

reminds me of pesky little things like math & science that don't change simply because some don't like the outcome... though don't tell the left that, ruins their whole day

Science can change on a whim nowadays, however it can best be used to fit the current narrative.

Just ask one of the 147 different genders.

And based on some of the numbers coming out of Washington, I'm not so sure about the math anymore either.

Did you ever see the suggested threads below?

How do you think Chris bought his new ranch?

We are tracked through credit cards, phones, social media, doorbell cams, red light cams, laptops, bank accounts, search history, and 700 other ways we don't know about. Patriot act made the 4th amendment almost obsolete. Unless you are living like the Unabomber Big Brother is watching. We haven't been "land of the free" since the tech age hit. I'm using what's most convenient and common.

It does but when connecting with clients it's beneficial to be on the most used platforms. Not forcing anyone else to use it. For me, I want to make it as easy as possible to get paid

You have to do what you have to do - I consider it unprofessional if a vendor insists on comms via 3rd party sites (or via text), and stupid if a customer does so. I take it some of your customers insist on this garbage. I'd charge them an "inconvenience fee".

Ah yes, the false God of our time: "Convenience". People would sacrifice their first born child in Molech's furnace for the sake of "Convenience". With that said, I consider things like What's Up, FaceSuck, et al anything but "convenient", and I won't even start with what a pain in the ass a PHOOOOOONNE is. People seem to have zero problems contacting me through email or phone call - preferably the former. But that's me - you do you. :D
