We just went through this with stepsons Kia.
Their procedure is-
1.Bring it in and they'll top off the oil.
2. Drive it 1000 miles and bring it back.
3. They check it again and ig it's a quart or more down, Kia will replace the engine.

Problem is, if you go 10050 miles they make you do the test again...and if your stepson doesn't get it done in a timely fashion, he passes the warranty mileage and they say, "too bad, so sad".
Then, your stepson drives it dry and blows up his ride at 90k miles.

Well, your results may vary, but that was my experience.
