Anybody have any idea what this is?

I bought my TJ 6 months ago and I am planning on putting in aftermarket sound system. I found this in the location where I was gonna put my amp. Does anyone have any idea what this box could be? My dad thinks it’s for the antenna. Also, could anyone tell me what the other wiring is there for? Thanks

Maybe some kind of security system. Check for any logos or brand name on it. Follow the wiring to see where it goes.

The left side connects the unit the radio. If you look up your year in the factory service manual you can identify the switched power wire from that connector and use it as the trigger wire for your amp. I just did that this weekend.

For a 2006 it is pin 5

I also have an 06, Do i just splice the wire and connect it to the one provided in the AMP wiring kit? Also, what is the other wire you have running off of it?

Yes I just snipped that wire from the connector and spliced it to the AMP trigger wire. I also connected another trigger wire to it, in my case for my Aux Panel switches. Both are low power draws so I felt confident to double up on it.

Okay. Thank you for your help. My 06 is currently in the shop for a timing chain replacement. Just ordered my amp and new speakers. Super excited to get it back.

So i tried this, Seems like im not getting any power from the wire. Went all the way to my after market head unit and i’m also not getting power. Do you have any idea why this could be?

Well, if it is relayed off your stereo, and your stereo is not getting power, then the relay won't get power either.

@JohnLeMieux , I’ve just looked at the FSM pages and it looks like the satellite accessory switched power comes from the radio and not directly from the fuse block (FSM 8W-47-6).

The radio accessory switched power comes from fuse 14 behind the glove box (FSM 8W-47-2) and would be the wire to use. I will need to redo my connection and I did not yet realize that because I’ve not yet powered up since wiring my stereo.

Sorry for the bum steer, lesson learned for me to avoid giving advice on something I’ve not yet fully verified.

It’s no problem. Caused no harm! I figured it out and have my amp fully up and running. Thank you for your help though!
